I was watching @KreekCraft on Friday when the Roblox Developer Conference began, which started airing at 1 pm ET. Follow the Bluesky & Threads accounts to get real-time updates on Roblox safety.

BACKGROUND on recent Roblox news

It’s been a rough few weeks for Roblox. But you wouldn’t know it from their Roblox Developers Conference (RDC 2025) today (more on that below). The recent history of Roblox Safety in short:

25 July 2025: We learned that YouTuber Schlepp worked with police and went undercover to catch sexual predators on Roblox. He released a video with details on the investigation, claiming (with proof) that Roblox HQ has refused to take any actions against predators. This goes back at least back ten years. from when he was twelve and abused by someone he met on the popular gaming platform.

I watched some of the games where the predators found his avatar, sometimes within seconds of starting. These videos have spread throughout YouTube and TikTok as people react. If you or your child has Roblox in your algorithm, it’s likely come across your feeds. I urge you to review these videos (if you can stomach it) before your child finds them. Here’s how to talk to kids about grooming.

Roblox swept in to reply these accusations and….banned the messenger, Schlep, from the platform.

This inaction is not surprising when you consider how often Roblox claims to value safety for kids on their platform. However, they tend to overlook real consequences for predators.

Soon an avalanche of YouTubers jumped on the hashtag #FreeSchlep. They called out Roblox for years of inaction about the known sexual predators on their site.

“They saw it for what it was.” They were silencing someone trying to blow the whistle,” Schlep told Michael Mandell on his channel @LawByMike. (Fair warning, Law by Mike looks very Better Call Saul-level cheesy at first, but his videos are great and thorough.)

Influential Streamer KreekCraft even discussed leaving the Roblox Star Program, which he credits to how he bought his home. “I just can’t, sit here and read this response that Roblox has given…it’s tone deaf. To compare Schlep with the predators he’s catching…you’re dodging the question. People at Roblox, they should just become politicians.”

The State of Louisiana filed a lawsuit against Roblox, alleging that the Company fails to protect children from predators on its gaming platform.

15 August 2025

Following this news, Roblox’s stock price dropped more than 6.3%.

5 September 2025

All they said about the #FreeSchlepp protests was that they’re listening to everything going around online. I had no optimism about what they’d say, but that was limp even for CEO David Baszucki.

1:25 PM ET Safety & Civility Updates

They started right off with Safety & Civility, announcing a number of “improvements.” Every improvement is fine and I will get into it more below. But all they said about their self-proclaimed “BIG NEWS” was……they’re implementing #AgeVerification “with improved AI face estimation and ID estimation,” and said it would be the superhero of safety and civility.

2:15 PM ET Roblox Moments

Sigh. They have an app.

It’s TikTok for Roblox, as popular Creator and Developer KreekCraft described on his livestream. You clip moments from your game without having to record the whole game, and then can edit and add music (from Roblox) to share with friends.

Yay, another social media app that will probably also require age verification to use it, thus tying your child’s curiosity about the world

So I’ll try it at Noon PT, when they’re launching it. (It hasn’t appeared on Google Play yet.)

2:45 PM ET

They’re predicting that within 5 years, Roblox will be used for video conferences at work, 3D Immersion for 18+ (see #ageverification announcement), and recruiters will use Roblox as part of the hiring process.
