Review: Is “Sackboy: A Big Adventure” the Cutest Co-op Video Game Ever?

Spoiler alert: Yes. Yes, it is.

Everything about Sackboy is delightful. Go on a solo or multiplayer co-op adventure with the seriously cutest hero ever.

Gameplay

Sackboy is a mix of puzzles, jumps, collection of bells and coins — all to discover if you have what it takes to become The Knitted Knight.

Play solo to relax or hang out with your kids for a multi-player, co-operative experience. The controls are fairly easy to learn and overall it’s very enjoyable. It isn’t mindless for an adult by any means, but I do find a certain level of zen once I get in the groove of the game.

Vex is voiced by Richard E. Grant. You’ll either know him by Withnail and I or as Classic Loki. He’s fantastic.

Story

Sackboy and his friends live an idealistic existence on Craftworld until the creator of nightmares, Vex*, needs labor to turn their beautiful world into a despairing dystopia (serious Dark Crystal vibes here).

Before he gets caught in Vex’s portal, Sackboy manages to escape and travels through many worlds inside Craftworld’s map to discover the secrets of The Knitted Knights.

Conclusion

Sometimes by the time I sit down to play video games with my kids, I’m already exhausted and want to chill out. A lot of games are too high-pressure, especially when playing with kids who are better at it than I am. Sackboy: ABA is not only fun to play, it makes me happy. Romping around in Craftworld is a blast, and a fun game to play with your kids.
